    Hello!

    I will be presenting with a fellow Alaskan, Juneau OT, and fellow NEA Disability Rights Resource Cadre member, (Anzer) Nikki Woodward, V.P Maryland State Education Association:

    Topic Area: Leadership and Professional Issues
    Session Number: 1593
    Title: The Importance of Education Union Membership for Related Service Providers (RSPs)
    Session Format: 1-Hour Seminar (In-Person)
    Day: Friday, December 6, 2024
    Time: 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

    When employed by school systems, Speech Language Pathologists and other Related Service Providers often have the ability to be covered by teacher contracts and have the right to join the teacher/education union. This course will highlight the benefits of union membership at the local, state, and national levels and how membership can support advocacy for themselves, their profession, and the students they serve.

    Learning Outcome(s):

    • Describe the difference between a professional association (ASHA) and an education union.
    • Recognize short term and long term advocacy tools through ASHA and education unions.
    • Summarize the benefits of Related Service Providers (RSP)s working collaboratively within education union membership at the local, state, national levels.
