  • 1.  One way to provide leadership in our professions

    There are so many ways to provide leadership in our professions - some of these ways are not what we think of as "traditional".  One opportunity that we all have right now is to provide leadership and input into our professions and to ASHA is to participate in a survey that will help ASHA's Government Relations and Public Policy (GRPP) Board develop the association's 2020 Public Policy Agenda.

    By focusing efforts on issues that are most important to members, we (ASHA members) can achieve successful outcomes and advancements in federal and state legislative and regulatory arenas. This is your opportunity to let ASHA know what issues are important to you and where you think ASHA's advocacy efforts should be directed next year.     The deadline for completing the survey is Tuesday, April 30, 2019. For your reference, the 2019 Public Policy Agenda is posted on ASHA's website (https://www.asha.org/Advocacy/2019-ASHA-Public-Policy-Agenda/).

    The 2019 GRPP Board includes Doanne Ward-Williams (Chair), Ingrid Blood, Katheryn L. Boada, (Board Liaison), Michelle D'Mello (NSSLHA), Ellen Estomin (PAC Chair), Monica C. Hudnall, Nancy McMahon, Aaron Roman, Deborah Ross Swain, Laurel Stine (Public Member), Martha Van Dam, Kathy Wheat, Daniel Williams, and Jeff Regan (ex officio).

    Great post! And you are so right in stating that this is one way to provide direction and leadership to our Association. For people new to giving input into the 2020 Public Policy Agenda, you can be assured that each and every response is carefully reviewed by the GRPP Board and ASHA staff! This is NOT busy work! 

    As members, I personally believe, if you want changes and improvements in the legislative and regulatory arenas, you MUST take time to advocate and make important issues known.
