    Hello everyone,

During this time, more than ever, we are in need of emerging leaders.  The ASHA BOD is seeking nominations to serve.  Please consider nominating yourself or a colleague as a potential board member.  The BOD is in place to continuing serving the mission of ASHA, as it has done for so long.

As a reminder about this opportunity, here are some details from the Vice-Chair of the CLC:

The 2021 BOD election will be held from April 14-June 2, 2021. Nominations opened on October 14, 2020 and will close on December 2 at 3:30 p.m. (Eastern Time Zone). Nominations may be made at https://vote.escvote.com/ashanom. You must be an ASHA member to nominate or be nominated for a BOD position.

BOD positions open for nomination for the 2021 election include the ASHA President-Elect, Vice President for Academic Affairs in Speech-Language Pathology, Vice President for Audiology Practice, Vice President for Science and Research, and the newly created Board Member at Large in Audiology (a Board Member at Large-SLP position will be elected in 2022). To learn more about the Essential Duties and Responsibilities, as well as Essential Experiences, Expertise, and Skills for each of the BOD positions that are open for the 2020-2021 election cycle, please go to:  http://www.asha.org/About/governance/BOD/Board-of-Directors-Position-Descriptions/. You can find information about the new ASHA election process at https://www.asha.org/about/governance/election/

Service on the ASHA BOD is a challenging and highly rewarding experience. All candidates for ASHA BOD positions should possess strong leadership skills, demonstrated through previous volunteer experiences with ASHA and other professional, primary-secondary educational, or higher educational organizations. They should have sensitivity to and respect for differing views and experiences, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. BOD candidates should be able to work well with people individually and in groups; listen and speak effectively; consider multiple viewpoints about complex, controversial issues; ask questions, take responsibility, and follow through with assigned tasks; and organize tasks and manage time effectively. Working knowledge of ASHA's mission, governance structure, services, policies, and programs is needed. Candidates should also be able to communicate ASHA's perspectives and policies with its members and stakeholders.

The time commitment required of ASHA BOD members is noteworthy. Terms of service are three years, beginning January 1, 2022 and ending December 31, 2024. In-person and remote meeting attendance is required. The President-Elect position involves 8-10 hours per month/6-10 days per quarter. Presidential duties, assumed by the President-Elect in their second year, involve 15-20 hours per month/10-20 days per quarter. The At-Large/Audiology position will take 4-5 hours per month/2-3 days per quarter. The remaining positions require approximately 5-15 hours per month/3-5 days per quarter.

Thank you for you considering this leadership opportunity.

    Sincerely,

    Alison Lemke

Vice-Chair, ASHA Committee on Leadership Cultivation (CLC)
