Ms. Theresa Rodgers


Bio

Theresa H. Rodgers, MA (SLP), CCC-SLP, EdS (Learning Disabilities), is currently a speech-language pathology and special education consultant, and the former Chief Administrative Officer for St. John the Baptist Parish. A Board Certified Specialist in Child Language, she has more than thirty years of experience in school-based practice which has included the positions of supervisor of special education and coordinator of speech-language services. Theresa received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Louisiana State University and also earned a Certificate of Education Specialist’s degree in Learning Disabilities from LSU. She has completed numerous post-graduate hours in administration and supervision at LSU as well as Southeastern Louisiana University.

Named an ASHA Fellow in 2009, Theresa was the 2020 ASHA President.  Recent ASHA board/committee/council service includes Leadership and Professional Issues Topic Co-Chair for the 2022 and 2023 ASHA Conventions, Code of Ethics Revision Task Force (2022), Board of Ethics (BOE) 2016 Vice Chair, 2017 BOE Chair, and 2018 Chair of the BOE's Ethics Education Committee. She was the 2012-2014 Vice President for Government Relations and Public Policy and, in that capacity, was a member of the Political Action Committee Board of Directors and liaised with the Government Relations and Public Policy Board, Health Care Economics Committee, Joint Committee on State-National Association Relationships, Medicaid Committee, and School Finance Committee. Her previous service to ASHA also includes membership on the Continuing Education Board, the Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (Chair in 2007 and 2008), CFCC Nominations Committee (Chair), Committee of Chairs of Standards and Ethics, Ad Hoc Committee on Board/Committee/Council Review, Speech-Language Pathology Advisory Council, and Legislative Council. She has also served as a site visitor for the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology and was a member of the Subject Matter Expert Panel during the development of the Speech-Language Pathology Practice Analysis Survey.

Theresa is a former President of the National Council of State Boards of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (NCSB), the Council of State Association Presidents (CSAP) and the Louisiana Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She served six (non-consecutive) terms on the Louisiana licensure board including three years as Chair, served five terms on the NCSB Board of Directors, and completed a term on the Standards Committee for the International Commission on Healthcare Professions of the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS). Theresa is a frequent presenter at national and state conferences on the topics of ethics, legislative advocacy, leadership, credentialing and standards, and utilization of support personnel. She co-authored a Code of Ethics for Speech-Language Pathology Assistants and was instrumental in the revision of Louisiana's practice act, rules and regulations.
