A few colleagues and I who teach counseling courses are petitioning for SIG 20 (Counseling in Communication Disorders). We are in need of support from 150 ASHA members by February 2021.

The mission of SIG 20 is to promote counseling education, research, and practice among NSSLHA and ASHA members in order to optimize treatment outcomes and equip clinicians with knowledge and skills to support clients and families within ASHA's Scope of Practice. SIG 20 will accomplish these objectives:

1. Bring together an active community interested and committed to incorporating counseling into clinical practice.
2. Define counseling within the scope of practice for audiology and speech-language pathology.
3. Establish a pedagogical network to improve learning experiences. Promote research in counseling.
4. Address the connections between counseling practice and serving diverse populations. 
5. Encourage interprofessional education and practice with related healthcare professions.
6. Advocate for the use and reimbursement of counseling services in CSD.
