  • Community Practices for ASHA's Elections

    Dear Members,
There has been some recent confusion regarding ASHA’s Election Practices—specifically, what constitutes acceptable practices for ASHA’s Board of Directors and SIG election candidates relating to posting candidacy messages in the ASHA Community.
    ACCEPTABLE PRACTICES
    • A candidate IS ALLOWED to use the ASHA Community in certain circumstances to promote their candidacy. This includes posting one candidacy message per Community Site that they have access to.
    UNACCEPTABLE PRACTICES
    • A candidate IS NOT ALLOWED to post on private ASHA Community Sites—such as on the sites of any SIG Coordinating Committees or ASHA Committees, Boards, or Councils.
    • A candidate IS NOT ALLOWED to individually contact members through the community sites about their candidacy.
    • It is also UNACCEPTABLE for a candidate’s supporters to communicate or ask for support of their candidate of choice via posts on ASHA’s Community sites.
ASHA’s Election Practices are located on asha.org for anyone who would like to review all the acceptable and unacceptable election practices.
And, of course, all candidates must comply with the Community Guidelines. The Community Guidelines and the Election Practices are now in alignment, and we apologize for any confusion that this may have caused.
    Thank you.
