Hey Jim,
In case this is useful:
The ASHA State-by-State page:
https://www.asha.org/advocacy/state/ has a link to the CA licensure info at
https://www.asha.org/advocacy/state/info/CA/. That page may have some useful advocacy options for you to take a look at.
Also, the CE requirements page on ~CA.gov (
https://www.speechandhearing.ca.gov/licensees/ce_req.shtml) offers definitions that seem to answer your question about what they consider "self study." That page specifically notes that live online courses are not self-study and are considered equivalent to sitting in a class (but look at the exception note about the 'fake live' webinars that are out there that combine a recorded sessions with a short live chat at the end - those are considered self-study by CA). See the link for the complete and authoritative details.
Cheers,
Jack

Hi Jo Ann and Everyone:
Thanks to everyone for your input. FYI: I did reach out to CSHA about this. The person I was in touch with was not open to advocating around this issue, but perhaps a different person could/would. They simply passed me on to the licensing board. The California licensing board has not waived any of the requirements( e.g., 24 hours every two years, only 6 of which can be for self-study). I'm still waiting for them to confirm that, regarding the other 18, they will accept live webinars rather than in-person events. The only waiver they have put in place is, for anyone who needs to renew their licenses from now through August 20th, they will give you 6 additional months to get the CEUs. I will post again as I get more information. For those of you other states, it's a good idea to get clear about your licensing requirements. I wish our state licensing department were being as supportive as ASHA. Once again, thank you, everyone.

Hi Jo Ann:
I am a bit surprised that your state ed dept. hasn't issued a waiver for the live hour requirement during the pandemic and the following year. I would communicate with CSHA, your professional state association, about this--they can start the dialogue with the licensing board and advocate for this. You can also ask CSHA to bring this up at CSAP, Council State Association Presidents. Many of the other states have applied received such waivers, and they can offer support and ideas.
I hope that helps.
Warm regards,
Wendy

I have been using speechpathology.com as well as the ASHA learning pass (when it was free). However, California requires 18/24 hours every two years to be live. I used to get these primarily at in person conferences. However, It is challenging to catch live course webinars. I am hoping ASHA will help advocate for them to waive the live requirements during the pandemic. Thankfully, there are many recorded options available.

Good morning all! I wanted to get some brainstorming ideas for how you plan on keeping up with continuing education this year in the absence of many in-person events. I thought this would be a great forum to share some ideas in the hopes that we could all benefit from hearing about some opportunities available to SLP/AUDs.
