Happy New Year! The ASHA Committee on Leadership Cultivation (CLC) hopes that your new year is off to a good start. These days, we seem to live and work in constantly and often rapidly changing situations in our personal and work lives. We're called upon to manage new challenges and changes on a frequent basis, and we may wonder about and seek information and strategies for responding effectively. Last year, the CLC brainstormed some tips for leading successfully in crisis or rapidly evolving scenarios. Below is some advice for those who find themselves in these kinds of situations. What additional advice can you share? What sources of expert kowledge and advice have you found to be helpful?
- Act quickly, using the available information as best possible
- Listen to others
- Be flexible about what needs to be done
- Remain calm, encouraging
- Communicate clearly to others
- Leadership involves making a plan, organizing, and carrying out what needs to be done
- Recognize need to pivot quickly and with agility
- Recognize important, essential things that have to be done
We're looking forward to reading what others have to say about successfully managing in times of crisis and rapid change.
